Stupas at the Land of Arya Tara
Stupas at the Land of Arya Tara
At the Land of Arya Tara a sacred project is unfolding, the creation of Tibetan Buddhist stupas—in Tibetan called chörten—that will serve as monuments of peace, wisdom, and compassion for generations to come.
Stupas are more than architectural treasures; they are powerful symbols of enlightenment, the awakened mind of the Buddha. Each stupa represents the path to liberation and radiates blessings to all who come into its presence.
As the wind moves over the stupas, it becomes blessed by the sacred energy, carrying peace, compassion, and healing to all beings touched by its movement, near and far.
To build a stupa is to build a wish-fulfilling jewel for the world.
Origins
The earliest stupas in India were built to enshrine the relics of Buddha Shakyamuni. As Buddhism spread to Tibet, the stupa evolved into a distinctly Tibetan form—rich in symbolism, ornate detail, and spiritual power.
A Tibetan stupa is not merely a monument; it is considered an embodiment of the Dharma and a field of merit for all beings who make offerings or circumambulate it.
Inside the stupa are sacred substances—relics, mantras, texts, and images—blessed by lamas. These contents transform the stupa into a powerful spiritual source, radiating blessings to the environment and all beings.
Types of Tibetan Stupas
In Tibetan Buddhism there are eight traditional types of stupas, each commemorating a major event in the life of the Buddha:
- Lotus Stupa – Buddha's birth.
- Enlightenment Stupa – Buddha’s enlightenment.
- Stupa of Many Doors – Buddha's teachings.
- Stupa of Great Miracles – Buddha’s miraculous powers.
- Stupa of Descent from Tushita – Buddha’s return from the god realm.
- Stupa of Reconciliation – Buddha's restoration of harmony within the Sangha.
- Stupa of Complete Victory – when Buddha extended his own life.
- Parinirvana Stupa – Buddha's passing into final nirvana.
Purpose and Practice
For practitioners, stupas serve as objects of devotion and meditation. Walking clockwise around a stupa (circumambulation), making offerings, or building a stupa generates immense merit—positive energy that supports spiritual growth and benefits all beings.
Building a stupa is one of the most meritorious acts in Buddhism. It purifies karma, removes obstacles, and creates causes for peace and enlightenment. Many people sponsor stupas as offerings for loved ones who have passed away, ensuring ongoing blessings and connection through the cycle of rebirth.
The Stupa Garden - A Place of Awakening
The stupa garden at the Land of Arya Tara will become a place for quiet reflection, prayer, retreat and renewal. Surrounded by nature, the stupas will radiate sacred energy and inspire the unfolding of spiritual growth for all who visit.
This project embodies our vision: to create a sanctuary where wisdom and compassion can flourish, and contribute to world peace.

A Field of Merit and Peace
The development of stupas at the Land of Arya Tara will create a powerful field of merit for all beings. Filled with sacred texts, mantras, and blessed substances, these stupas will continuously emanate positive energy, purifying the environment and bringing harmony to all who visit.
Visitors will be able to walk mindfully around the stupas, make offerings, and dedicate prayers for peace and wellbeing. Each circumambulation is a meditation in motion — a simple yet profound way to connect with the qualities of compassion and wisdom that the stupa represents.
Sponsoring Stupas — Highly Meritorious Offerings
At Land of Arya Tara, you can donate towards stupas for world peace, and you can sponsor a memorial stupa. Memorial stupas can be dedicated to loved ones, or built as an act of devotion for one’s own spiritual journey, or can inter the ashes of the deceased after death. To be involved in building stupas is considered one of the most meritorious and compassionate acts, bringing blessings to oneself and others, now and in future lives.
Through the act of building or supporting a stupa, we participate in the timeless tradition of offering — transforming generosity into a physical expression of Dharma in the world.
Join Us in Creating This Sacred Space
We invite you to take part in this precious opportunity — whether through donation, sponsorship, or your personal prayers and dedications. Together, we can establish a field of merit that benefits beings far into the future.
